Harling Point Pump Station Upgrade

Water Street developed options for both upgrading and replacing the Harling Point sanitary pump station, located in Oak Bay, BC.

The pump station was constructed in 1982. It consists of a concrete wet well with submersible pumps, an electrical kiosk, a water washdown kiosk, and a collection chamber that provides storage for times when the inflow briefly exceeds station capacity, and during power failures. Most of the station’s major equipment is near end-of-life, and the station fails to conform to modern standards for safety and reliability. It also does not conform to the performance goals of the Core Area Liquid Waste Management Plan.

The report presented three options with business cases for upgrading and/or replacing the station. The option selected by CRD for detail design was innovative, and proposed to decommission the collection chamber and add a permanent genset. This eliminated a confined space while enhancing reliability. Water Street was subsequently awarded the detailed design of the replacement station, which was completed in early 2020.
