Similkameen River Slides Assessment

Water Street was commissioned by Hudbay Minerals Inc. to investigate possible causes of erosion leading to slides and instabilities on the Similkameen River and determine the effects of the Copper Mountain Mine Tailings Management Facility on the area.

Water Street carried out a review of historical aerial imagery and a site visit to review the conditions at key slides and assess the geomorphology of the Similkameen River through the areas of interest. A review of mine operations and mine water data was carried out and correlated to historic slides to assess possible anthropogenic impacts. The historical Similkameen river migration at key landslide sites was measured and correlated with groundwater levels and high flow events to assess natural causes for the slides. A technical memorandum was prepared to present the findings of the assessment.
