Project Description:

Water Street Engineering was retained as a subconsultant to gökotta studio + lab for the City of Maple Ridge to develop the McKenney Creek Enhancement and Restoration Plan. The purpose of the plan is to address urban growth requirements while enhancing watershed resilience. The 500-ha McKenney Creek system plays a vital role in stormwater management and ecological connectivity, requiring solutions to mitigate increasing impervious surfaces and flood risks.

Phase 1 of the project included background review, drainage model improvements and calibration, deficiency identification, and development and preliminary siting of mitigative solutions. Phase 2 is currently underway and includes hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to assess pre-development targets for watershed functionality and evaluation of future condition solutions to achieve pre-development targets with increased urbanization and climate change impacts. To support long-term resilience, Water Street will develop a plan for cost-effective stormwater solutions and policy recommendations that align with urban development while protecting McKenney Creek’s ecological integrity.
